About the Department
The Department has been functional in Ch. Devi Lal University Sirsa since its inception in 2003.With the introduction of Certificate/Diploma Course of Proficiency in French w.e.f session 2021-22 and with our plan to introduce more Certificate/Diploma courses in foreign languages, the name of the department has been changed from Department of English to Department of English& Foreign Languages. It is a part of the Faculty of Humanities. The Department supports the university’s vision by creating opportunities for our students for developing critical thinking, communication and soft skills, the knowledge of literature, both western and the indigenous literatures in translation, and an aesthetic sense expected of culturally literate people and prospective teachers in schools, colleges and universities. The Department has been offering academic Programmes for the award of degrees of M.A. English and Ph. D (English). The faculty in the department is actively engaged in academic activities and forms a part ofShakespeare Society of India, Executive Member RASE, Fellow of SCT, Cornell University, New York, Member FCT Vadodara etc. All the faculty members are actively involved in research and the dissemination of knowledge by way of publishing books and papers in reputed journals.

- To envision the Department as a centre for academic excellence by encouraging innovative teaching learning practices and promoting quality research and professional expertise.
- To train and groom the students in such a way that they think creatively and imaginatively and work innovatively to make India a global superpower.
- To keep the students motivated through teaching learning practices for developing and maximizing our country’s rich talents and resources for the good of individual, society, the country and the world.

- To introduce students to the tools of literary scholarship and sharpen their critical ability to interpret and evaluate all forms of literary representations and expressions.
- To prepare students for employability by honing their professional competencies.
- To strengthen a global worldview through a well structured curriculum and university/community partnership.
