About the Department

The Department of Geography, Chaudhary Devi Lal University, Sirsa was established under the faculty of Social Sciences in July 2017. The Department is located at the second floor of Tagore Bhawan of the University. The first batch of the students was admitted in July, 2017. So far the department has produced about 100 post graduate students. Currently, department is running M.A. (two year) program. The Department of Geography has two well aerated classrooms for M.A. (Previous) and M.A. (Final) with defined sitting arrangement, electricity facility with power back-up, projector. Department has one lab having practical equipment facility based learning of subject domain. Presently, there are one APC and four PTTs working as faculty members in the department. The department is equipped with LCD projector, cartography and computer lab to learn and enhance the practical knowledge. It has conducted several extension lectures from the very eminent personality in the field of Geography. In the year2019, our six students qualified UGC-NET. We are also planning to procure GIS Lab in the department in upcoming days.

Vision

Geography is the specialized branch of the Social Sciences devoted to understand the geographical processes and their regulation with applications in Remote Sensing & GIS. Through our M.A. program, we envision to prepare the students for pursuing career in academics, scientists, urban and regional planning, Geographical survey etc. The main thrust areas of the department are Remote Sensing & GIS, Urban & Regional Planning, Social Geography & Tribal studies etc.

Mission

To provide quality teaching of Geographical knowledge adopting latest teaching method strategies and techniques.
To promote Geography education to sensitize and aware students the needs, problem, issues, challenges and prospects arising out of complex interplay man, nature and technology.
To take up quality research taking theoretical and empirical aspects into consideration to provide solutions of human problems, issues, challenges related with time, space, physical objects, identities and differences, development, nature and man etc. at global, regional and local levels.
To enhance sharing and dissemination of Geographical knowledge and experiences through organizing and promoting active participation in conferences, seminars, symposia, workshops etc. and through publishing research work at national and international levels in appropriate forms.
To identify and work on local and global thrust areas that need Geographical interventions.
To produce trained students with creative, innovative and inventive research aptitude by providing hands-on training in Geography
To train and equip manpower with the knowledge, skills and values required to address the need for high-level manpower across the nation.
